Reflexology Association of America
The Reflexology Association of America (RAA) is a national association of affiliated State Reflexology Associations and individual Reflexologists dedicated to the professional development of the field of Reflexology. Our membership is not only made up of a diverse population of Reflexologists but also recognizes, accepts and encourages the exploration of the many different styles and methods of Reflexology throughout the world.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is the fastest growing complementary healthcare modality in the US and the world today. It can be used with any medical or alternative therapy, or it can stand alone as an effective health maintenance technique. It is the systematic, manual stimulation of the reflex maps located on the feet, hands and outer ears that resemble the shape of a human body. Pressure is applied using thumbs and fingers in small movements to stimulate an area far removed from the reflex point. It is believed to work through the nervous and subtle energy systems of the body.
What is Reflexology’s Purpose?
Reflexology works with all the body’s systems to improve the function of the entire system, including organs, glands, and circulation.
What is Reflexology’s Benefit?
Reflexology is deeply relaxing, which allows the body to release the stresses and tension of everyday life and begin to balance itself in a normal, healthy way. When the body is balanced internally and externally healing can begin on all levels, including physically, mentally, and spiritually.
What Can I Expect When I Go for a Reflexology Session?
When you arrive at your appointed time, you will be asked to fill out an intake form just as other complementary healthcare providers do. For the Reflexology session, you will sit in a comfortable lounge chair or lie on a Reflexology table fully clothed with only your shoes and sock removed. Depending on your session plan, the Reflexologist will work the feet, or a combination of feet, hands, ears. The session will usually last from forty minutes to one hour.
How Are Reflexologists Trained?
When looking for a Reflexologist, look for one who at a minimum has received instruction and certification at the 200 hour level. Many Reflexologists have gone on to become Board Certified through ARCB (American Reflexology Certification Board), the national, nonprofit testing agency for Reflexology in the US. ARCB certificants are further required to obtain continuing education training. To find a certified Reflexologist near you, check RAA’s web site www.reflexology-usa.org, or www.arcb.net .
Millions of people worldwide now know the benefits of Reflexology. Do it for your body, mind, and spirit.
