Perhaps now we need to learn how to handle power – the biggest test of all –– not over others, but over ourselves. At another time, we may need to learn lessons of humility and again, the opportunity will be presented – perhaps through loss and self sacrifice if necessary.

All of these lessons and more must be learned. If we keep our relationship with God strong and true, if we keep pushing forward with courage – standing fast to our spiritual beliefs and allowing them to live -- then we can embrace change instead of fearing it.

One sometimes meets people who have been in the same job for thirty years and who are absolutely dedicated employees. Their friends tell them they should have left years ago because they have witnessed them being treated unfairly, underutilized and underpaid. But they cling on because the job represents security to them, and they fear change. Then one day the person is fired from the job and their whole world seems to crumble. Then they are face-to-face with the unknown and beset by fears. A similar thing can happen to any of us. We may not be clinging on to a job, but perhaps it is a bad habit. Everyone around us is aware of it, but we just refuse to see it and this bad habit of ours really stops us from being who we are fully.

Once we become more conscious humans, dedicated to helping rather than to taking, pressure is put upon us to change all our bad habits so that we can grow and evolve. If we don’t give up the bad habits of our own accord then, wham – one day something is going to happen to force us to do so.

This is why it is so important to not only embrace change, but to initiate change in our lives. To do this self honesty is an essential first step. We have to be able to look at ourselves in the mirror and see clearly what is going on and face ourselves with honesty.

In other words, let’s be prepared to move on. Don’t lets get stuck like a broken record on an outworn aspect of our personality, but let us always strive to move closer to the Divinity within us all.
